This commercial never aired. However it was a great piece designed around a donut concept that can present various stories of how Tachi Palace Casino is contributing to it’s community. The Commercial was shot on the RED in 4K and the DI was done in 2K with an uncompressed 1080P final output. Approaching the spot from the angle of the heritage of the Tachi tribe, authentic Tachi tribe dancers were filmed along with many fire elements, a few crane shots, and a blue screen element for the donut segment. After the base plate was laid out in ProRes, the tracking was done in Mocha, the blue replaced with the donut piece in After Effects, and color corrected and conformed in 2K with Apple Color. Then the various layers of fire elements, titles and particle systems were added to finalize the piece.

This spot was for the latest Tachi Palace promotion. Probably one of the more complex pieces of Motion Graphic work that I have done. Heavy use of multiple expressions for the camera motion, targeting, and distance falloff. Custom built particle systems to match the look of the original vector art splashes and to simulate falling flowers. 3D rendered water simulation rendered from Maya, layered over the top of 3D color gradients to give a watery look without taking away from the original vector look. Live video footage integrated into the backgrounds and used for some transitional elements. Use of the “Puppet” tool system in After Effects to simulate wind blowing through reflected, vector, Palm fronds. All of these various mediums and elements combined to make a very fun and energetic piece.

Color Corrected and Processed By: Jeremiah Belt

This Color Correction Demo shows the immense flexibility, creative looks, and general fixes that can be achieved through a professional DI/Color Correction work-flow. All of the footage in this piece was shot on a RED Digital Cinema, RED One camera at 4K and 3K resolutions. They were then Color Corrected and rendered down to 1080P HD before being encoded for the web. The RED One camera has the ability to shoot at extreme resolutions in a digital RAW (unexposed or non-destructive) format. Basically the digital equivalent to 35mm film. This gives a Colorist, like myself tremendous leeway and creative control over the final look of a piece. Most of the footage in this demo I processed in Log color space instead of a Linear color space. This allows for a softer, less clipped and harsh roll-off, gradation of the highlights regardless of whether your final output will be in linear space. All of the Color Correction process in this demo can be achieved and applied to any medium (DV, DVCPRO, BetaSP, HDV, P2, etc..) but 35mm film, Uncompressed HD, and now the RED cameras have the most color leeway for extreme corrections and styles without adverse effects of grain and artifacts from compression.

All of the footage above was shot by BLARE Media and on their RED One camera system. They are one of the few production houses in the San Joaquin valley that own a RED camera and can offer this high quality medium.

I was asked to put together the 2009 Fresno Ad Federation Addy Awards show production graphics this year, by Byron Watkins of JP Marketing. Byron was heading up the production and event this year and had a unique take on what he wanted to see. The look was going to be very abstract and transformed as we went along. The theme for the event was “What is Creativity?”. With that in mind the loop animation that would be playing throughout the dinner would show various random images that relate in some way to creativity. We wanted a unique, refracted look for everything. I developed an Abstract 3D object made of glass in Maya. This object would reflect and refract the imagery we put inside it. The imagery was then animated in using high speed photography of liquid splashes that were contained within the confines of the glass object. This glass object was also going to be the transitional element for the titles, nominees, and winners throughout the night. Because of the shear mass of titles we didn’t have time to let the 3D program calculate the physics of all those reflections and refractions. I had to develop a way to emulate the refraction and reflection that would normally be calculated by the 3D program in After Effects. In the end we came up with a very unique and stylized evening of Motion Graphics.

This spot was created to promote the Tachi Palace Tax Relief promotion. There was a tight turn around. The Poster was designed at JP Marketing and then I broke it up and adapted it to suit television and animation. The piece was animated in After Effects.

This spot was for a New Years Eve promotion at The Den in Lemoore, sponsored by Tachi Palace. The Print piece had a nice vector look which was then emulated and brought to life in After Effects. The plan was to have the ladies dancing but due to a tight turn around we had to forgo that effect.
